Eighth, arising based on physical embodiment: The latter five deliverances arise based on embodiments in the three realms, since it is accepted that the attainment of cessation can be aroused in the formless realm. Regarding the first three deliverances, there is an opinion that they arise solely in the desire [realm], on account of scriptural authority. Fascicle twelve of the Yogācārabhūmi says: due to two causes and conditions it is called "having form," namely being born in the desire realm. There is an opinion that this is not so; they arise across both realms. When initially cultivating the deliverances, the stations of totality are their fruit, which must be in the desire realm, as in the previous principle; later, when they are perfected, the stations of totality serve as the cause and the deliverances as the fruit, so what prevents them from also being aroused later in the form realm? Could it be that one born in the form realm cannot be called "having form" and thus does not cultivate supernormal powers?
