"Namely, from being reviled by others, up to the shame (hrī), embarrassment (apatrāpya), love, and reverence that arise": feeling embarrassed at being reviled by others is out of regard for others and feeling ashamed; feeling ashamed at one's own revilement is out of self-regard and feeling ashamed. Falling away from great benefit, when one deeply recognizes the causes and conditions, one generates redoubled shame and faith; this is named "love and reverence." That is, lacking love and reverence toward the Three Jewels is called falling away from great benefit. Alternatively, each of the three states can give rise to all three, and they need not be separately apportioned.
