Four dharmas serve as the footprints of consciousness: namely, the four stations of consciousness (vijñānasthiti). "Moving toward upon seeing" refers to the matter of the five sense faculties. "Grasping as an object" refers to the matter of the six sense objects. "Having both āśraya and sphere" corresponds in turn to the faculties, the five external objects, and the realm of mental dharmas (dharmāyatana).
