In explaining the characteristic of light, there are three [parts]: first, generally clarifying that this takes the light of the Dharma as its object; next, clarifying the eleven dark obstacles to be cured; third, revealing the contrary pure dharmas capable of curing them. "Because doubt pursues one in this manner" concludes the initial dark obstacles; "because of obstructing the causes and conditions capable of dispelling doubt" concludes the latter three obstacles. Diligent exertion with little sleep, proper eating so that the body is attuned and one conformingly observes the Dharma of the truths, not desiring to live in mingling, and wise attention (yoniśo-manaskāra)—these are the causes and conditions capable of eliminating doubt. The latter three obstruct these, and therefore are said to obstruct that which can dispel doubt.
