In explaining the ultimate truth gāthās, the text is divided into two parts: first, quoting the verses of the sūtra; second, providing specific explanations accordingly. Among the forty-four verses, they are divided into twelve sections: First, there are nine verses elucidating that there is no sentient-being self, as well as the substantial meaning of active functions across all phenomena. Second, there are two verses elucidating the defiled natures of household and homeless life, [namely] ignorance and craving. Third, there are five verses elucidating the support, cause, and temporal divisions of the defiled category. Fourth, there are four verses elucidating specific and general characteristics, as well as contemplation on the two truths. Fifth, there are two verses elucidating the meaning of the non-conjunction of the three kinds of three phenomena. Sixth, there is one verse elucidating that mental factors of the same nature are associated, not those of different natures, etc. Seventh, there are two verses based on the principle of the two truths elucidating the existence and non-existence of persons and phenomena. Eighth, there is one verse elucidating that the agent and experiencer are inexpressible as identical or different. Ninth, there are five verses resolving doubts and difficulties. Tenth, there are five verses elucidating the origination of suffering through accumulation, liberation through the truths, etc. Eleventh, there is one verse elucidating the ālayavijñāna by analogy to a pond and its divergent streams. Twelfth, the last seven verses reveal the comprehensive knowledge of understanding and liberation, and the comprehensive knowledge of bondage. Among the first nine verses, the text is divided into three parts: the first five verses directly elucidate selflessness and active function; the next three and a half verses re-elucidate that phenomena have no active function; the last half verse reveals that phenomena arise from conditions and cease of themselves.
