Regarding chewing and tasting in the treatise, why are cakes and the like considered "chewing," while milk and the like are considered "tasting"? The answer: that which cannot be masticated is called "tasting"; that which can be masticated is called "chewing." Because solid food such as cakes cannot be sipped and sucked, it is called "chewing"; that which can be sipped and sucked is called "tasting." Or it may generally be said that chewing and tasting have no difference, but are established according to worldly convention.
