Regarding the treatise's statement, "There are briefly seven kinds of continuity of rebirth: 1. with entanglements and latencies," referring to ordinary worldlings; "2. with latencies only, referring to those who have seen the footsteps of the noble": this is based on latencies; ordinary worldlings use both manifestations and seeds, because the Abhidharma[-samuccaya] harmonizes nine kinds, and because they definitely arise, stating that greed and anger are aroused; it does not mean there are no seeds. When a person with the fruits of the path of seeing takes rebirth in realms and stages: if reborn in the same stage, they also moisten [rebirth] with manifestations—as when, having been born in the first heaven of the first dhyāna, one next takes rebirth in the second [heaven], one likewise moistens with manifestations. Because the power of the path is weak, even when reborn in a different stage, one moistens through eight kinds; except for the third fruit, none moisten by seeds alone, as in the first fascicle of the Maulī Bhūmi and the fifth of the Abhidharma[-samuccaya]. Here, stating that bodhisattvas take rebirth through the power of wisdom means, as in the Abhidharma[-samuccaya], that they take rebirth through the power of vows. Although this fruit has outflows, it is also brought about by wholesome karma with outflows, yet it conforms to the place of birth.
