Regarding the treatise stating: "Furthermore, the liberations are manifested by liberation from the cognitive obscurations. By this, śrāvakas, pratyekabuddhas, and others attain mental liberation from the cognitive obscurations," and so forth: This refers to feeling born of transformed and untransformed vipāka; that is, it is a pure, neutral (avyākṛta) phenomenon. Because it obstructs the knowable, it belongs to the category of cognitive obscurations. Moreover, it also extends to defiled feeling; simply because it obstructs the knowable, it receives the name 'cognitive obscuration'. When the two vehicles sever this, it is called 'severing the cognitive obscurations'.
