The treatise states: 'How, through mindfulness, are the Three Jewels distinguished? One should be mindful of the Buddha Jewel by means of marks... up to: meaning the Buddha, the World-Honoured One,' and so forth. This means that one is mindful of the Buddha by means of distinct marks, namely being mindful of the Buddha Jewel through the marks of all virtues of omniscience such as the ten powers and four fearlessnesses; one is mindful of the Dharma Jewel through remaining marks such as cessation, detachment, the unconditioned, and nirvāṇa; and one is mindful of the Saṅgha Jewel through marks of virtues such as non-contention. 'Remaining' means that the Three Jewels are 'remaining' in relation to one another: that is, the marks remaining outside of the Dharma and Saṅgha constitute the Buddha Jewel. Through such differentiated meanings, being mindful of the Buddha and the others is called 'remaining'. 'Meaning the World-Honoured One,' and so forth, sets forth these remaining marks of the Buddha Jewel and the others. The Great Master says so.
