Regarding 'slothful giving': when someone comes asking for gifts, one does not go everywhere to give, but gives only waiting for them to come asking. 'Not in accordance with what is desired': this is giving out of fear, fearing one's own poverty and suffering. 'Giving with lingering attachment': practicing the trade of one's forebears to repay another's past kindness, yet it is not what one delights in oneself. 'Giving for the sake of the future': hoping for vipāka and looking for repayment from others; hoping for these two fruits is a fault. 'Disparaging giving': relying on one's own wealth and status, giving while showing contempt, or repaying kindness while looking down on the other. 'Seeking wealth and pleasure': seeking external five sense-objects among devas and humans. 'Seeking renown': because of aiming for reputation. 'With an undefiled mind in order to proceed to a good realm': proceeding there to cultivate practices beneficial to oneself and others, and therefore it is not a fault.
