In the third major section, reflecting upon all phenomena, the text is divided into two parts: first, a presentation; second, an explanation. "Reflecting upon the meaning of the sūtras": as for the Sūtra-piṭaka, according to this treatise, among the twelve divisions of teachings it mostly subsumes seven divisions. Excluding conditioned arising (nidāna), because it is intrinsic nature; avadāna, itivṛttaka, and jātaka, because they are attendants—these four are subsumed under the Vinaya-piṭaka. Further, excluding upadeśa, because it is subsumed under the Abhidharma-piṭaka. Among the seven divisions, excluding solitary gāthā recitations, the remaining six divisions of teachings are the meaning of the sūtras to be reflected upon. Solitary recitation of gāthās is the meaning of the gāthās to be reflected upon, and this has three kinds: "Ultimate truth gāthās" elucidate the principle of selflessness. "Intention gāthās" explain the intention of the gāthās, such as the four intentions. "Substantial meaning gāthās" elucidate the substantial nature and meaning within the gāthās.
