1.41

凡造論者，總有二緣：一、令法久住；二、為濟含識。一、自利；二、利他。一、由智德；二、由恩德。一、為生大智；二、為生大悲。

In general, whoever composes a treatise has two conditions: first, to cause the Dharma to endure for a long time; second, to deliver sentient beings. First, benefit for oneself; second, benefit for others. First, through the virtue of wisdom; second, through the virtue of beneficence. First, to give rise to great wisdom; second, to give rise to great compassion.
