The Commentary states: This is a brief indication. Below, those respective discriminations are explained. This word 'discrimination' refers only to defiled citta and caitasikas. The Madhyāntavibhāga-śāstra states: 'Unreal discrimination refers to the citta and caitasikas of the three realms.' Therefore, this is not clinging mind; but according to what is prominent, the holy teachings reveal it through many gates. When it mentions having two, three, and so forth: this will naturally be explained extensively below in this fascicle under the three natures. As for 'are discriminated extensively and fully as in other treatises': Yogācārabhūmi fascicles thirty-eight, seventy-three, seventy-four, the Prakaraṇāryavācā, and so on are all as explained below; the Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra fascicle five also has ten discriminations and so forth. Above, in explaining this verse: first, the text was interpreted according to the verse; second, it was explained extensively. Within the extensive explanation: first, discrimination arising conditioned was questioned; second, it was answered and explained. In the explanation: first, the four conditions and so forth were explained; second, the arising of discrimination was explained. In [explaining] the arising of discrimination: first, discrimination producing manifest activity and seeds, and so forth, was differentiated; afterward, it was concluded generally. Or, dividing into three from the previous interpretation: first, briefly explaining the verse; next, explaining extensively; afterward, concluding. Or, dividing into three within the extensive [section]: first, explaining the four conditions and so forth; next, clarifying the arising of discrimination; third, extensively discriminating. Or, dividing this extensive arising of discrimination into two: first, differentiating arising; afterward, differentiating discrimination; the remaining interpretations are as before. With respect to clarifying the marks of consciousness-only: first, the marks of the three transformers were extensively discriminated; next, consciousness-only was clarified in the verses preceding this. From the preceding verse onward, various objections have been resolved. There are two parts within this: the first two verses resolve objections contradicting reason; the latter five verses resolve objections contradicting the teachings. In the first two verses resolving objections contradicting reason, one verse has already been concluded above.
