The Commentary states: This is the fifth objection: that if atoms are identical to coarse matter, there should be no obstruction or separation. Your obstructive coarse matter should lack obstruction and separation; because it is identical to atoms; just like atoms. You hold that obstructive matter is precisely atoms, and that outside atoms there is no obstructive matter. If atoms lack spatial parts, coarse matter should also lack spatial parts; because of lacking spatial parts, there would also be no obstruction or separation; like non-material entities and the like, the formal inference being as before. The Viṃśatikā says: 'Without it, shadow and obstruction would not exist'—this refers to the absence of obstruction.
