The Commentary states: This is the second section, which briefly summarizes what it takes as objects. Within this there are three [points]. First, distinguishing by āyatana: among the ten physical āyatanas, the five sense-objects are both external and internal, and the five sense faculties are internal only; it takes only real objects as its object. The eighth also takes the real matter of the dharmāyatana as its object, namely, the matter that is the sphere of action of sovereign samādhi, as extensively analyzed in fascicle fifty-four of the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, which should be harmonized accordingly. The word 'included' (sui) has the meaning of subsumed, which is another term for matter included in the dharmāyatana. In which āyatana are seeds subsumed? In whichever āyatana they are subsumed: although they are taken as objects only by the mental [consciousness], because they are not determinately different from real active phenomena, they are subsumed according to the active phenomena. There is a challenge in this, which should be reflected upon in accord with principle.
