The Commentary states: The second fascicle of Asvabhāva's Mahāyānasaṃgraha states: Just as from charcoal, cow dung, and hair, there are produced in sequence sesame, blue lotus roots, and reeds. It is not that sesame and the like co-arise and co-cease with charcoal and the like, perfuming one another and being produced from them—this is called having no perfuming. Just as sesame and the like [arise] together with flowers and the like, co-arising and co-ceasing, and due to perfuming produce fragrance and the like—this is called having perfuming. External seeds are indefinite; internal ones are definitely perfumed. Therefore, since external seeds are only present actualities, they serve as sovereign conditions to distinguish the results produced.
