The Commentary states: This is the extensive analysis. Within this there are three parts: first, distinguishing how many conditions the perfumed possesses; second, distinguishing how many conditions the perfumer possesses; third, explaining the meaning of perfuming and so forth. In the first part there are three: first, a question; next, an answer; finally, a conclusion; this is the first. The second fascicle of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha also has this text, though with slight differences, which should be distinguished as they occur. However, among the five groups of dharmas, the first eliminates material dharmas, mental factors associated with the seven consciousnesses, and so forth; the second eliminates the Buddha-fruit, wholesome dharmas, and the like; the third eliminates the unconditioned and the mental factors concomitant with the non-associated; the fourth eliminates the position that perfuming is permissible across different bodies at the same time. For what is absent in the Mahāyānasaṃgraha, only by examining and comparing them one by one can the differences be known.
