The Commentary states: Due to the force and power of the preceding three nutriments, this consciousness is augmented; consciousness in turn nurtures the faculties and the primary elements, being capable of performing the function of nutriment. Fascicle sixty-six and other texts say: because material nutriment and so forth nourish the faculties and primary elements, causing the consciousness produced thereby to manifest clearly and keenly, the consciousness is nourished and augmented by the power of the three nutriments such as material nutriment. Fascicle fifty-seven says: after causing consciousness to increase and flourish, consciousness thereafter nurtures the faculties and primary elements.
