The Commentary states: Objecting to the previous master's explanation: regarding that cessation absorption and so forth, the fifth fascicle of the Abhidharma-samuccaya takes the previously ceased mind as the equal and immediate condition, because there is no intervening mind of its own kind in between; relying solely on its own category as its basis, it does not rely on the other seventh and eighth. Although the substance of the five vijñānas is interrupted, because there is not a single mind of their own kind intervening, it should be like that mind, not taking the mind as a condition. Since for their five vijñānas this is not conceded to be so, taking the preceding mano-vijñāna as the equal and immediate condition and not taking the five vijñānas of their own category as condition, why in that cessation absorption and so forth should the sixth, the mano-vijñāna, be like that? That is to say, the mano-vijñāna does not rely on the five vijñānas, and also the sixth takes the seventh and eighth as conditions; by analogy it is the same as the five vijñānas using the mind as their basis.
