The Commentary states: Following the explanation of coexistence with sorrow below, this is what the first master states. If based on coarse marks, pride mostly arises with reference to pleasant aggregates; it does not arise together with that portion of the view of self-existence which grasps the aggregates associated with suffering, nor with that portion of false views that denies the truths of suffering and origination. In actuality, it is also possible, which is why the text below says that pride, the view of self-existence, and false views all coexist with sorrow, because of relying upon and grasping what is painful and inferior. Here, the explanation is given based on coarse marks and the majority case; if one grasps the aggregates associated with pleasure as the self and denies cessation and the path, it can coexist with pride, because one relies on one's own pleasure to slight cessation and the path.
