The Commentary states: This explains the difficult points. First, in the five and sixth consciousnesses of the desire realm, it coexists with sorrow and suffering, meaning when losing wealth and the like. Hostility is explained in reverse of this: seeing enemies, death, and so forth, all should be understood accordingly. However, this discrimination across the five destinies will be understood below. What is meant here is that even in the five consciousnesses there are greed and so forth arisen from discrimination, because they are induced by discriminative greed and so forth in the mental consciousness. If it were not so, how could the Yogācārabhūmi say that discriminative greed and so forth are associated with the feeling of suffering? It is not accepted that the mental consciousness possesses suffering as a definitive principle; because it is definitive that the five consciousnesses have greed and so forth arisen from discrimination, Fascicle 59 made this definitive statement. Otherwise, as with discriminative pride and the rest, it would not have stated that they do not coexist with suffering.
