The Commentary states: Dharmapāla says: Among that which is transformed above, the transformed darśanabhāga is called "discrimination"; being of the paratantra-svabhāva, it can grasp the transformed paratantra-nimittabhāga, and thus gives rise to various parikalpita-svabhāva discriminations. This is the transformed function of the substance of consciousness that is able to discriminate, and therefore it is called "discrimination". The paratantra-svabhāva nimittabhāga transformed by the substance of consciousness, which resembles the parikalpita nimittabhāga, is called "the discriminated", because it is the mark grasped by the preceding darśanabhāga that can discriminate; it does not mean that the intrinsic substance of my consciousness itself being able to cognise is called discrimination. Arising the discriminating view is the function of consciousness, because both nimitta and darśana arise depending on the self-witnessing [division]. Sthiramati says: The transformed darśanabhāga and nimittabhāga are both parikalpita; the darśana resembles a grasper, and the nimitta resembles what is grasped by the darśana, but in reality there are no two divisions. This concludes the explanation of the second line.
