The Commentary states: Saying "sāsrava" excludes anāsrava sense faculties. An anāsrava faculty generating an anāsrava consciousness presents no contradiction. "Uncommon" excludes the sāsrava eighth consciousness; since it is common, it can serve as a basis for an anāsrava consciousness. "Invariably co-existent" shows that it is not the equal-and-immediate condition (samanantara-pratyaya); because the faculty acting as the equal-and-immediate condition arises successively, it can rely on the sāsrava. "Having the same cognitive object" excludes the seventh consciousness acting as a basis for the sixth; although it has the preceding properties, it does not share the same cognitive object. Hence, for this sāsrava faculty to generate an anāsrava consciousness is not concordant. The opponent asks again: "Just as the sixth relies on the seventh, it also relies on what is sāsrava; what is discordant about this?" Now he proves it further through an inference (anumāna):
