The Commentary states: This is the third proof. That fifth fascicle states that investigation and examination take as their objects the three dharmas of nominal sets (nāmakāya) and the like, as well as the expressed meanings; the five consciousnesses do not take nominal sets and their expressed meanings as their objects. By the above teaching and reasoning, we know that the five consciousnesses definitely lack investigation and examination.
