The Commentary states: The second part explains the name. 'Knowable objects' refers to the conditioned and the unconditioned. 'Non-inverted nature' refers to the principle of tathatā. Because it obscures these objects so that wisdom does not arise, being able to obstruct bodhi, it is named the knowledge obstacle. This explains the name, for it receives its name in contrast to the predominance of what it obstructs, which will be explained naturally below under the transformation of the basis. In the former affliction obstacle, the afflictions themselves are the obstacle; in this knowledge obstacle, it is the obstruction of the knowable. The former manifests its name based on the entity itself, which is a karmadhāraya compound; the latter receives its designation from what is obstructed, which is a tatpuruṣa compound.
