The Commentary states: This master has two [parts]: first, setting up the thesis; second, citing proof, solely answering the first question. Although each mind and mental factor in substance is a single self-verifying part, they arise as if they were two other-dependent parts, namely the darśana- and nimitta-bhāgas. What various sūtras and treatises call the 'two graspers' are these two. Although such two parts seem to exist as substances, in reality and truth they do not exist. These two marks are spoken of in the Madhyāntavibhāga and other texts as the imagined [nature].
