Regarding possession and non-possession: the ripening of seeds refers to the possession and non-possession of the two vehicles and worldly paths; it does not speak of bodhisattvas. Bodhisattvas also have possession and non-possession of the two hindrances prior to the path of vision (darśana-mārga). It should be said that the affliction-seeds of the two vehicles have possession and non-possession, while the cognitive hindrance is exclusively possessed. For bodhisattvas, both are explained: in the stage of provisioning (saṃbhāra-mārga), the innate are both possessed and non-possessed, and the intellectually formed are both possessed and non-possessed. In the stage of application (prayoga-mārga), they are exclusively not possessed; the innate are both possessed and non-possessed. Once one enters the path of vision, the path of cultivation (bhāvanā-mārga) has possession and non-possession, while the path of vision is exclusively not possessed. In the path of cultivation, the seventh [consciousness] is exclusively possessed, while the sixth has possession and non-possession; the unsevered affliction-hindrance is exclusively possessed, while the seeds of the cognitive hindrance have possession and non-possession. All should be inferred through reflection.
