然初五門十義仍以三門總勒：一、彰論同、異；二、教歸所在；三、敘釋題文。彰同、異中略復開三：一為對異宗顯自宗別；二為對異教顯自教體；三為被機感廣說時機。教歸在中，復開為三：一、十二分教何分所攝；二、二、三藏等，何藏所攝；三、一、二乘等，何乘所攝。釋題文中又開為三：一、敘論年、主；二、釋論題目；三、解論本文。又解此論三門辨釋。一敘論所因。二解論題目。三判釋本文。

However, the initial five divisions and ten topics are still generally subsumed under three heads: 1. clarifying the similarities and differences of the treatise; 2. the locus to which the teaching belongs; 3. recounting and explaining the title and text. Clarifying the similarities and differences is further briefly divided into three: 1. to demonstrate the distinctiveness of our own school in contrast to other tenets; 2. to demonstrate the essential nature of our own doctrine in contrast to other teachings; 3. to broadly explain the times and capacities [of listeners] in responding to their predispositions. The locus to which the teaching belongs is also subdivided into three: 1. which division among the twelve divisions of teachings subsumes it; 2. which basket among the two or three baskets and so forth subsumes it; 3. which vehicle among the one or two vehicles and so forth subsumes it. Explaining the title and text is also subdivided into three: 1. recounting the date and author of the treatise; 2. explaining the treatise's title; 3. interpreting the root text of the treatise. Again, explaining this treatise is analyzed and interpreted through three divisions: 1. recounting the origins of the treatise; 2. explaining the title of the treatise; 3. determining and explaining the root text.
