1.71

或總分四：初一頌半總標綱要分；第二十四頌半廣陳能變分；第三有九頌結釋外難分；後之五頌依修獲益分。先未有說，故總標宗。不知識性如何，故次陳能變。雖成所立，外問須除，故結釋難。既如是已，聞思何利？故次明修獲益。由此成四，不增不減。

Or it is generally divided into four: the first verse and a half is the section of generally designating the essential outline; the second twenty-four and a half verses are the section of broadly presenting the transforming [consciousnesses]; the third has nine verses, which is the section of concluding and explaining external objections; the final five verses are the section of obtaining benefits based on cultivation. Because there was no explanation previously, one first generally designates the central theme. Not knowing what the nature of consciousness is, one next presents the transforming [consciousnesses]. Although what is to be established is accomplished, external questions must be eliminated; therefore one concludes and resolves objections. This already being the case, what is the benefit of hearing and thinking? Therefore one next clarifies obtaining benefits through cultivation. Through this it constitutes four, neither increased nor decreased.
