《瑜伽》第六及六十四、《顯揚》第十說：執我有四：一、即蘊；二、異蘊住蘊中；三、異蘊住離蘊法中；四、異蘊非住蘊中，亦非住異蘊法中，而無有蘊。一切蘊法都不相應，後三俱是異蘊計攝。合是二三類計，中、初二攝盡，彼唯破外道，不破小乘，故無與蘊不即不離。

The Yogācārabhūmi (fascicles 6 and 64) and the Prakaraṇāryavācā (fascicle 10) state that clinging to a self has four types: 1. [the self is] identical to the aggregates; 2. different from the aggregates and dwelling within the aggregates; 3. different from the aggregates and dwelling in phenomena apart from the aggregates; 4. different from the aggregates, not dwelling within the aggregates nor dwelling in phenomena apart from the aggregates, and without aggregates. It is completely unconnected with any phenomena of the aggregates. The latter three are all subsumed under the conception of being different from the aggregates. Combined, these are two and three categories of conceptions; the intermediate and initial two subsume them entirely. Since that text only refutes the non-Buddhists and does not refute the Hīnayāna, it lacks [the view of the self as] neither identical to nor different from the aggregates.
