With the six consciousnesses of the three moral natures such as wholesomeness as the distant cause, there is the co-arising moment and the co-arising conceptualization. Among the four indeterminates and others, how many possess the three karmas, and can a mind of maturation and the like initiate karma? A mind that is the fruition of karma definitely cannot initiate karma or its subsequent operation. Although texts regarding that which is the fruition of karma have not been seen, in principle it is truly difficult, while determining the rest is possible. Its initially arising feeling of pain or pleasure, just as wholesomeness and unwholesomeness are mutually difficult, must be led by an afflicted or pure mind before conforming to the outflow. Since the faculty of pain detached from desire lacks grief to lead it, how does it initially arise? The natures of wholesomeness and unwholesomeness are separated and difficult, so their initial arising conforms to the nature of the manas; pain and pleasure are not different in nature, so being led by equanimity they immediately arise in conformity.
