Why the seventh takes that as an object has four interpretations. The correct doctrine is that it takes the darśana-bhāga as its object. Regarding what it depends upon in that, there are only two masters: active and seed. Taking the active [consciousness] as the support is correct, yet they still do not differentiate which of the four divisions it depends upon. The present explanation is that because the self-substance has superior power, and the darśana-bhāga has the function of acting and experiencing, [the seventh] takes it as object; because it is not separate from the substance, it is collectively said to take that as object. Another explanation is that it depends upon all three divisions because they collectively have power, but it only takes the darśana-bhāga as object because it alone acts and experiences. Or, what is perceived as the object has the meaning of being capable of cognition; thus the support and object are identical, and all three divisions are termed "darśana." Hence the treatise says: "Because it constantly serves as the support for all dharmas."
