Now considering this intention: relying on defilement and detachment from defilement does not explain the level with investigation and with analysis and the level without investigation and with analysis only, but explains only the level without investigation and without analysis; thus the text of this treatise is not exhaustive in its principle. How could it be said: "The distinction of the three levels is established relying on having defilement and lacking defilement"? If one's body is in the lower realm and accomplishes the defilements of the three levels, one should be called [belonging to] the three levels. Having followed what has been detached from, one should not belong to that level. Now we should ask the explanation of this third master: on what basis do realms and levels come to be differentiated?
