二百年外，有南天竺龍猛菩薩、提婆菩薩俱出於世。龍猛菩薩造《大智度論》釋《大品般若》，造《無畏論》滿十萬頌。《中論》出於無畏部中，有五百偈《十二門論》等。龍猛弟子提婆菩薩造《百論》等。廣如《付法藏傳》及龍樹等傳說，為破小乘及諸外道執我執法，說之為空，時多著空。

Beyond two hundred years, the Bodhisattvas Nāgārjuna and Āryadeva both appeared in the world in Southern India. Bodhisattva Nāgārjuna composed the Dàzhìdù lùn explaining the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā, and composed the Akutobhayā in full ten thousand verses. The Mūlamadhyamakakārikā was produced from within the Akutobhayā, having five hundred verses, as well as the Dvādaśamukha Śāstra and so on. Nāgārjuna's disciple Bodhisattva Āryadeva composed the Śataśāstra and so on. As extensively explained in the Transmission of the Dharma Pitaka and the Biographies of Nāgārjuna and others, in order to refute the Hīnayāna and the various tīrthikas' attachments to self and attachments to phenomena, they spoke of them as empty; at that time, many became attached to emptiness.
