On the treatise's "and is accompanied by the others, contact and so forth": Two masters explain this. The first master gives two explanations: first, the remainder of the four afflictions; second, the remainder of the unobscured nature. If so, does the subsequent statement that it is subsumed under the obscured nature not become redundant? Answer: This master explains "the others" as having two meanings: first, exclusion; second, positive indication. We now adopt the meaning of exclusion: the five omnipresent dharmas previously accompanied the eighth, and they also accompany the seventh; fearing they might be thought identical to the previous one in being of an unobscured nature, "the others" is stated to exclude this. The subsequent statement that it is subsumed under the obscured nature is its positive indication; hence there is no fault.
