4.84

《疏》言：「故令異熟種以現行為住依，以種子因緣依，與現行俱有依為例。」者，意以異熟識中種，即以第八現行為住依，能熏轉識，望於種子，雖是因緣，亦與種俱有，故與諸現行識，俱有依為例，新舊合者，釋生長義。

The Commentary states: "Therefore, it establishes that the ripening seeds take the actuality as their abiding support, taking the seeds' cause-condition support as a parallel for the actual consciousnesses' co-arising support." The intention is that seeds within the ripening consciousness take the eighth actual consciousness as their abiding support. Although the perfuming evolving consciousnesses are a cause-condition with respect to seeds, they also co-arise with seeds; therefore, it is made a parallel for the co-arising supports of the various actual consciousnesses. The combination of new and old explains the meaning of generation and growth.
