問：散亂云何得與定並？答：味定之中，正慘懮故，得與相應。又貪、嗔等，專注緣境，亦有染定，故散亂並。

Question: How can distraction accompany concentration (samādhi)? Answer: Because within the savoring of concentration one is actually afflicted and troubled, distraction is able to be associated [with it]. Furthermore, when greed, anger, and the like focus attentively upon an object, there is also defiled concentration, and therefore distraction accompanies [it].
