5.238

《論》：又唯是善等，本說彼所引故，釋唯是善，下上地無，明屬地因。西明云：彼所引故通二義。今謂不爾，加行善定引故善，不以善定引是屬第四定，在文自解。下上地無由前說故，指同於前說無想報。

The treatise says: "Moreover, it is only wholesome, etc." The root [commentary] says that because it is induced by that, it explains why it is only wholesome, and its absence in the lower and higher levels clarifies the cause of its belonging to that level. Ximing says: "Because it is induced by that" applies to both meanings. Now I say this is not so: it is wholesome because it is induced by the preparatory wholesome absorption; it is not because it is induced by the wholesome absorption that it belongs to the fourth dhyāna, as the text explains of itself. That it does not exist in lower and higher levels is due to what was said previously, pointing to the same reasoning as said earlier regarding the retribution of non-conception.
