The treatise says: "Among the four karmas, it applies to three, excluding that to be experienced in the present [life]." In discussing karma in brief, there are two kinds in all: first, karma that is definite in producing results; second, karma that is indefinite in producing results. Therefore, Yogācārabhūmi chapter nine says: Karma to be definitely experienced refers to karma that has been deliberately willed, and has been both performed and accumulated; karma to be indefinitely experienced refers to karma that has been deliberately willed, performed but not accumulated. The meaning here is that using deliberate and determinate volition as the preparatory means is called "deliberately willed." Therefore, chapter ninety says: Karma committed deliberately refers to having first deliberated, then having engaged in vitarka, then having engaged in vicāra, and then having initiated bodily and vocal [actions]—this is called performing karma; causing the seeds to increase is called accumulating karma. The Samuccaya chapter seven says: Performing refers to generating and creating various karmas, causing them to be active; accumulating refers to increasing the vasanās.
