5.59

《疏》言非慚慚故，信是無慚；非信信故，慚是不信者。顯體各異，非以信令心淨。慚是不信，非以慚令心善，信是無慚。諸餘廣略性、業同別，准此釋知。

When the Commentary states: 'It is not that through shame (hrī) being shame, faith is shamelessness (āhrīkya); nor that through faith being faith, shame is non-faith (aśraddhā)', this demonstrates that their essences are distinct: it is not that because faith causes the mind to be pure, shame is non-faith; nor that because shame causes the mind to be wholesome, faith is shamelessness. The remaining extensive and concise accounts of own-nature and activity, whether identical or different, should be understood by analogy with this explanation.
