However, in Ximing's explanation of shame (hrī), he speaks of the power of self and of Dharma, identical to the statement in the Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya: first, with oneself as predominant, meaning a superior person feels shame toward their own self and does not commit evils; second, with the Dharma as predominant, being a middling person who, to protect the holy teaching, does not commit evils; third, with the world as predominant, meaning an inferior person who protects worldly fame and profit and does not commit evils. Now I say: this is not so. In the Prakaraṇārya, the Pañcaskandhaka, and this Śāstra, it only says: 'relying on self and Dharma'; there is no mention of the world. If it is said that the inferior category belongs to embarrassment (apatrāpya) and not to shame (hrī), this too is not so: could it be that superior and middling persons who generate shame do not possess embarrassment? Therefore it must not be identified with what is said in the Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya.
