Ximing says: In terms of general characteristics, vijñapti-mātra is taken as the doctrine. Specifically, it is the three of object, practice, and fruit. This explanation is not different from the Fayuan; however, in the Shunyao, in explaining the title and outlining the text, the meaning of the doctrine is extensively clarified. As for "differences in essential nature", this is divided into three parts: First, determining the root explanation as in the Fayuan, which is further divided into three: 1. Generally presenting the essence; 2. Specifically presenting the essence of the teaching; 3. Clarifying the aggregation. Second, recounting variant interpretations: within recounting variant interpretations, first recounting the variants, and next evaluating and selecting among them. Third, presenting our own interpretation; our own interpretation will be determined below.
