詳曰：然初師義雖無所據，理猶可通。第二師義斥《疏》全非，世之立名有種種異，稚年貌美號為儒童，老從舊稱，斯有何過？若言儒童即令唯小，俗字觀音應即是聖；此既不爾，彼云何然？

Examination: The first master's view, though lacking textual evidence, is still logically plausible. The second master's view rejects the Commentary as entirely wrong; [however,] the assignment of names in the world has various differences: in tender youth with handsome features one is called a 'youth' (Rutong), and in old age one retains the old designation—what fault is there in this? If one says that 'youth' must strictly denote a child, then someone whose secular name is Guanyin must be a sage; since that is not so, why should it be so here?
