Answer: Some say: When a person gives rise to anger, their face is red and mind hurried, so they are designated as fire. If they become joyous, their face is pale and mind relaxed, then although they lack fierceness and redness, because they previously gave rise to fierceness and redness they are still said to resemble fire; although separated from that quality, they are still said to resemble fire. Thus one cannot say that it is because they are inseparable that they are designated. This too is incorrect. Saying that a human resembles fire is always based on the present, not on what was in the past. If one relies on what was in the past, it does not stop the other's rescue. They would rescue it by saying: "You call it designation based on what was past; I speak of designation on the basis of present substance being inseparable—what fault is there in this?" Hence we know this is untenable.
