答：根等為依無所似，故據生能名變異。觸是能依似所依，但名分別非變異。

Answer: The faculties and so forth serve as the basis (āśraya) and do not resemble anything else; therefore, they are called modification in terms of their productive capacity. Contact is that which relies (āśrita) and resembles that on which it relies; it is merely called discrimination (vikalpa), not modification.
