釋曰：外又救云：此之二識體同義分，其體是一亦不違經無同類並。故今破云：自性別故，如眼等五識。又異熟識，不應間斷，結相續已，後應餘處，更結生故。

The exposition states: The opponent again saves [their thesis] by saying: 'These two consciousnesses have the same entity and distinct conceptual functions; their entity being one, it does not contradict the sūtra's prohibition against the simultaneous arising of the same category.' Hence it is now refuted: 'Because their own-natures are distinct, like the five consciousnesses such as the eye [consciousness].' Furthermore, the retribution-consciousness should not be interrupted, for once it has linked up succession, it would later have to link up birth anew in another place.
