有義難云：未伏說斷，次第之人，應於見道亦斷彼故，亦不可說先伏助伴。論說：俱生微細難斷，修道位方除；說見道除理將未可，由彼微細，不障見故。而自救云：次第之人道依未至，由道劣故，不能斷修，超越之人，根本入故，云隨所伏皆能永斷。

One opinion objects: If one speaks of abandonment when they have not yet been suppressed, then a person of gradual progression should also abandon them in the path of seeing, and one could not speak of previously suppressing the companions either. The Treatise says that innate [afflictions] are subtle and difficult to abandon, being eliminated only in the stage of the path of cultivation; to say they are eliminated in the path of seeing is conceptually unacceptable, because being subtle, they do not obstruct seeing. But it saves itself by saying: For a person of gradual progression, the path relies on the preparatory [absorption]; because the path is weak, it cannot abandon [afflictions abandoned by] cultivation. For a person of leap-over [attainment], because they enter by means of the fundamental [absorption], it is said that whichever are suppressed can all be permanently abandoned.
