I examine this and say: It is not like the afflictions, which have nine grades for each ground and are divided into coarse and subtle, and abandoned earlier or later; hence it is said to have 'no categories and degrees.' It does not mean that it has no kinds such as craving or aversion that it is called 'lacking categories.' Therefore, there is no contradiction in the Commentary. If one says that because their non-defiled nature is identical they are combined into one, could it be that that sūtra only distinguishes the five grounds of abiding for the two vehicles? If it also includes bodhisattvas, why would it be merely non-defiled? For those bodhisattvas, it constitutes the defiled aspect, just like the afflictive hindrances; since they are not opened separately, we know they are not combined based on being non-defiled.
