釋曰：初二忍智是後所生聖道種類，名為「苦類」。智緣此忍，名之為「忍」。或後所生諸聖道等，是前類故，名之為「緣」。

Explanation: The initial two—patience and cognition—are the category of the subsequent noble path that arises, and are called 'category of suffering'. The cognition taking this patience as object is called 'patience'. Alternatively, all noble paths and so forth arising subsequently are categories of the preceding; therefore they are called 'objects'.
