The meaning of the five blisses is fully detailed in the root treatise; now I briefly distinguish their names and substances one by one. Being the cause that gives rise to bliss, it is called 'causal bliss'; its substance consists of four dharmas, as listed in the Commentary. 'Associated with bliss' refers to mental dharmas such as contact that conform to pleasant feeling. 'Generated action' means karma initiated with respect to a pleasurable fruit, called 'generated by bliss'; because through this wholesome karma one obtains a desirable fruit, it is called causal bliss. Alternatively, volition (cetanā) associated with bliss is called 'generated action'; generated action can induce future pleasurable fruit, so it is called causal bliss.
